Monday 26th June 2006 Dave Ramday, Brian Judd, Richard Bendall…. later Chris Camm. Tempted by a call to arms from Brian Judd to come see recently collapsed pot near Lancliffe, at lease 5 m deep, we packed all concievable gear not knowing what to expect. Monday 3rd July 2006 Dave Ramsay, Brian Judd, Richard Bendall later Chris Camm maybe can’t remember. Visits by various others Fri & Sun continued the downward progress. Excellent day. Comfortably down to level reached by The Craven (-5m) but we now have the advantage. Capping out side of narrow mud/cobble filled shaft allows floor to be dug so it’s all downward progress.

Setting off 6 holes at a time so quickly the drill has no time to cool before we need to use it again. Rock transportation aided by wheelbarrow, although running repair with foot pump carried out, a drop of oil needed next time to maintain smooth running. Patio area coming on nicely. … Read More

Monday Oct 2nd A flying evening visit to bag up mud and see if everything was safe. (it was) Looking at the bottom of the dig; there’s about a foot of mud on the left side, a foot of rock in the middle and a 4 inch crack on the right. Now the mud has been dug out, another capping session should see the shaft proceeding down pleasantly. There’s been a fair amount of water going down the shaft but … Read More

I think it’s a combination of nature and the passage of cavers wearing it down. Don’t know of anyone deliberately digging it out.
