Echo Inlet

Sunday 27th March. Paul Windle ,Bill Sherrington. Paul fresh from previous exploits with piano sized boulders in Notts 2 eagerly accompanied me on a Sunday trip to somewhere less likely to kill him. Echo certainly fits the bill and we carted large and heavy batteries enough for a days exploits. Arriving we were confronted by ponded water for the length of the dig and of a more that adequate depth to create extreme slurry. Nothing for it we needed to … Read More

Downstream sump now pushed by Jason Mallinson . Sump has very low visibility and the dive proved that it was not just a simple duck. No feasible passage has been passed in what has been described as a downward descending tube. Posiible solution maybe to bail the sump back in drought conditions. On this subject of conditions our exit was only possible via the by pass dig near dome inlet. The Canyon beingdangerous an impassible

Inlet 5 new passage

Hello all, Thanks to Richard Bendle for the invite to this group. I am pleased add further details re: inlet 5 extention. The extention is currently 250+ metres long and of large proportions, typicly 3 metres wide by 4 metres high and carries a small stream which at present is not thought to enter the Notts 2 streamway. From the breakthrough point at the mud duck a short crawl intersects a large trunk passage with the said stream. Upstream leads … Read More

Thursday 9th Nov Pete Hall, Richard Bendal, Dave ramsay, Neil Pacey, Bill Sherrington. 5 go wild in t’other side of inlet 5, evening trip to grab the remaining glories to be had in the new extension. Upstream the usual proddling in boulders in the usual places resulted in the same comments as made previously by the Latimers. “This trunk passage should not end like this its too big.” No grabbing to be had here then except that of the long … Read More

Notts 2 Inlet 5 ravernus kift

After 2 months of at lease twice weekly trips, enough calcite has now been removed from the echoing inlet in the stand up chamder in inlet 5, (after the wet crawls and before the new bit) to allow access to a small chamber. Although large enough to stand up in, this is a disapointing end to a promisimg lead as the only way on is compleatly blocked by calcite. Intentions are now to concentrate on the boulder filled aven around … Read More

GEAR TEST. On said Inlet five trips the DeWalt 24w cordless Drill has been employed with good effect on a few of the trips. It drills holes , deep ones quicklly, in calcite. However the de walt drill is shite as is the de walt Warranty. I hardly used the thing , a little bit of mud gets in and the thing fucks up and guess what the drill is sealed with special screws for which you need a special … Read More

Inlet 5 Desecration

On a trip to tape off all fomations and mud banks in the new extension to inlet 5. It was noted that the formations en-route had been well and truly messed up and the long straw which reached from ceiling to floor is no more! While the breakages cannot be repaired and could be expected the mud could be cleaned off with squirty bottles and water from the inlet at the end before the muddy descent to the new extensions. … Read More

That’s appalling. And damn…I was planning a trip to photograph inlet 5 (the nice part!….or what was the nice part) I’m up for attempting a clean up, yes….take my camera at same time before the trashers return. Hopefully there is still something of value to record? The Dark Lord

Inlet 5 – Waterfall

Mick Nunwick was asking me what happened up the roof inlet of the inlet 5 stuff in Notts 2. You know the one, the source of the water just upstream from where you enter the big stuff. Am I right in thinking you maypoled into it? I don’t think he wanted to do anything to it but was intrigued as he couldn’t see any bolts!

Inlet 5 waterfall thing. We did maypole this straight after the breakthrough. Once you get clear of the falling water it’s a meandering rift which quickly closes down to a flat out crawl. The water comes from a number of really small inlets which is a bit dissapointing. Had it been worth a push we would have bolted it.
